Your First Observation
A step-by-step walkthrough from starting a recording to a finished report.
This guide walks you through a complete observation in Elevate, start to finish. Set aside a few minutes before a real lesson to try it.
Before you walk in
- Open Elevate and select New Observation.
- Choose the teacher, subject, and grade level.
- Pick the language of the lesson (defaults to English).
- Run or skip the optional audio quality check — a short test that can confirm your microphone and transcription are working.
Requirement: Elevate needs microphone access in your browser. If prompted, choose Allow.
During the lesson
- Select Start Observation to begin recording. The timer shows elapsed time.
- Add notes as you observe — each note is timestamped to the moment you wrote it.
- Use quick tags for one-tap observations like "Clear Instructions" or "High Engagement".
- Open the live transcript panel any time to follow along.
Note: Observation sessions are capped at 45 minutes. You can pause and resume at any point.
Wrapping up
- Select End Observation and add any post-observation notes.
- Select Generate Report. Elevate uses AI to detect and replace student names and drafts your report.
- Refine it in the Report Builder, then export to PDF.
Note: Review the final report text for any remaining student names before finalizing it. Avoid typing student names into Report Builder edits, because those edits are not scrubbed again.
