Transcribing an Observation

Start, pause, and stop transcribing, and what the timer and connection indicator tell you.

Once the observation is created, you're ready to begin. Elevate transcribes the lesson in real time while you focus on observing.

Starting and the timer

Select Start Observation to begin. A timer shows how long you've been observing.

Pause and resume

Need to step out or pause the lesson? Use Pause, then Resume when you're ready. While paused, no new audio is captured, but text already being processed may still finish and appear in the transcript.

Session length

An observation session can run up to 45 minutes. Elevate gives you a heads-up as you approach the limit — a warning at 5 minutes remaining and again at 1 minute remaining — so the end never catches you by surprise.

The connection indicator

While you're observing, Elevate shows the status of the live transcription — including when it's connecting, active, or temporarily unavailable. If the connection drops, you'll see it, and you can keep taking notes the whole time. See If your audio or transcription fails.

While you're observing

This is the heart of the observation. Capture what you see with notes and quick tags, and glance at the live transcript whenever it helps.

When the lesson wraps up, move on to Ending an observation.

Tip: Keep your device awake and the Elevate tab open during the observation so it isn't interrupted.
