Student Name Scrubbing Explained

"Scrubbing" is how Elevate uses AI to detect and replace student names in your observation when a report is generated. Here's how it works.

When it happens

Scrubbing runs when you generate a report. Elevate reviews the transcript, your notes, and your post-observation notes, and uses AI to detect and replace student names before the report is created and saved.

What it does

• Student names are replaced with neutral labels: [Student A], [Student B], and so on.
• The same student gets the same label throughout, so the report still makes sense — you can follow "Student A" across the lesson.
• The AI is instructed to keep the teacher's name rather than treat it as a student name.

English and Spanish

Scrubbing works for both English and Spanish observations, including Spanish naming patterns like compound surnames and accented names.

What you should do

Scrubbing is automatic, but AI can miss a name. Review the final report text for any remaining student names before finalizing it. Avoid typing student names into Report Builder edits, because those edits are not scrubbed again. As a good habit, also avoid full student names in your observation notes when you don't need them; "the student in the back row" works just as well.
